The idea of the Schoon percolated in Elaine Steele's brain one cold morning in January of 2020 after plunging yet another clog in her old bathroom in her old house in Arlington, VA. We've all had the same experience; we plunge the toilet and don't know what do with that dirty, nasty plunger afterwards. A lot of times, the go-to is to stick it in the tub or back on the floor to deal with the inevitable later.
Elaine approached her longtime friend and engineer, Pierre Malko, about the idea of a self-cleaning plunger. Being a germaphobe, Pierre was intrigued, and the two started collaborating on the idea. After several designs, a few prototypes and a patent application later, the Schoon was born and is now ready for manufacturing!
